Tote Bag / Beach Bag in T-Shirt Yarn

The first time working with bigger yarn such as t-shirt yarn is so satisfying! It's amazing to see the bag creating so much volume while an amigurumi would still be in its initial steps. Of course, each technique has its unique features, and I love that crochet gives me the possibility to try them all.

I use this bag to go to parks, pools, or beaches, and it works very well - you can also adapt the pattern as you prefer and add multiple colors to it. I crocheted the bag based on the video tutorial in the end of this post, but adapted it to my own preferences: I used a 9mm hook and t-shirt yarn instead of the suggested cord with a 7mm hook.

There are premium t-shirt yarns and recycled t-shirt yarns, which are residual materials from the textile industry and are irregular in its width, and for these bags I used the residual t-shirt yarn. Because of this choice, a second bag that I made got too narrow in its middle part as it had thinner yarn - if you use residual t-shirt yarn, I recommend cutting off the irregular bits and rejoin them as if you were changing colors. You can also buy premium t-shirt yarns that have regular width.

I also played a little bit with the bags' handles, making larger ones with my navy blue tote bag and smallers ones in the white/navy blue one.

This is the video tutorial that guided me through this process:

I started this project to share my crochet adventures, mostly with amigurumi and t-shirt yarn. I love experimenting with new crochet techniques and patterns!
